The photo of the green gate is 75ft long and 9ft high. It uses no ground track to guide it.  This is a super rigid custom cantilever gate that weighs over two tons.  It secures an opening 50ft wide to allow authorized trucks to come and go. This kind of gate cannot be installed by just anyone, it requires special engineering and experience to install a massive gate like this.

The other example photos of Cantilever gates are lighter weight aluminum designs appropriate for smaller openings for driveway entrance security for cars and people, areas where a simple barrier gate is not sufficient.

Motorized Gates

Cantilever gates incorporate motorized operation with special sensing capability to operate in a safe method in case anyone were to get in the way, hitting an object or person.  The sensors are very important to minimize the risk of injury or damage.

Rolling Gates

To construct the example green gate Commercial Entry Service had to use special gate hardware materials, available only from Italy, shown in the picture to the right. Massive rollers arrays to hold extremely high stress are needed. This hardware is uniquely built and tested to support a cantilever gate this heavy for a distance of 50′. Anchoring the roller points was done in a super foundation, adequate to suspend the gate this heavy at such a long distance.

A cantilever gate is supported from rails that run along the inside of a fence structure. This is where it gets its name from – “cantilever” means “hangs over” the gate opening. These gates need to be wider than the usual slide gates in order to provide a counterbalance section along the fence structure where the gate is supported. This section is usually half of the width of the gate opening. They are suspended across the gate from the counterbalance, with no rollers on the ground. Because of this, cantilever gates provide no ground obstruction, making it a preferred choice for heavy-duty and industrial gate applications.

Generally, no part of a cantilever gate comes in contact with the ground directly, or indirectly with any type of wheels. This gate instead “cantilevers” to close the opening. A cantilever gate construction allows for overhanging structures without external bracing.

A cantilever gate frame constructed properly should be able to withstand forces of gravity and wind. Diagonal bracing and trusses are strategically placed to help the gate from sagging.
